Class Schedule

BEGINNER 1 CLASS
 

Saturday, April 5th
TIME:   8:30 a.m. **Plan to arrive 10 minutes early; we start RIGHT on time, we have LOTS to learn!

Start using your DSLR or Mirrorless camera to its potential! Even if you’ve had your camera awhile, make sure you have it set up right and truly learn from Square One. Take your digital photography skills to the next level with D Portraits' Digital Photography Beginner 1 course.

We'll walk you through:

​

  • Basic set-up options; How to set up your camera

  • Easy to understand explanation of camera terms

  • File format options - RAW, JPEG

  • Resolution options and what to choose

  • Using automatic scene modes

  • White Balance - what is it, how does it help or hurt your photos, and how to use it

  • Create better pictures with smart composition such as the Rule of Thirds and other composition tips and tricks from top photographers

  • Much more

 

With Dee's easy-to-follow instruction, hands-on practice with photo stations and handouts, you'll be taking stunning photos in no time!

Take your digital photography skills to the next level with D Portraits' Digital Photography Beginner 2 course! In this class, you'll start to learn how to take your own professional-looking pictures and become more comfortable with your camera's options and modes.

Dee will teach you about:

  • Aperture

  • Shutter Speed

  • ISO

  • Depth of Field

  • Exposure and the exposure triangle

  • Expanded composition instruction with background and light considerations

  • Portraiture and Macro/Still Life

With hands-on assistance and photo stations in the classroom, you'll be able to practice what you learn and start to develop your own photography skills.​​

BEGINNER 2 CLASS

BEGINNER 3 CLASS
 

Saturday, May 3rd
TIME:   8:30 a.m. **Plan to arrive 10 minutes early; we start RIGHT on time!

 

This is the class to PUT IT ALL TOGETHER. It is where you truly start to venture out of "Beginner" stages and begin taking control of your camera and your photos!

 

Get to the NEXT LEVEL:

  • Manual Modes

  • Custom settings with Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO

  • Custom White Balance

  • Histogram

  • Lenses

  • Filters

  • More Composition Instruction

Begin moving off automatic and into MANUAL with hands-on assistance the entire way. Learn steps, with provided Summary Guides to fit in your camera bag, that will put it all together - Class 1, 2, and 3!

We give you a ROADMAP for future success with your camera, so you don't have to try to remember what you learned in class - you will leave with the Summary Guides Dee created through years of instruction and student questions!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Studio Located?

The D Portraits Studio is located at 110 6th Street NE, Rockford, Iowa

What do I need to bring?

Bring: 

  • Your camera

  • charged battery

  • A memory card

Will there be breaks?

We take one break about half way through class, but you can also take a bathroom break on your own during class if needed. 

How long does each class last?

Each class lasts 3 hours.

Will there be snacks?

YES! We will have light snacks and bottled water. 

Can I bring my own drink?

Yes you can bring your own drinks or snacks! 

NOTE: we do not allow alcohol at the studio.
